NodalSeismic Wins Geophysical Company of the Year, West Coast Region at the 2013 Annual Oil & Gas Awards.
November 4th, 2013 – Long Beach, CA – NodalSeismic, LLC, a technologically advanced geophysical firm known for its unique cable-free acquisition solutions, announced that it has been awarded Geophysical Company of the Year, West Coast Region, at the 2013 Annual Oil & Gas Awards Ceremony.
NodalSeismic was nominated for its Long Beach, CA 3D seismic survey, acquired for client Signal Hill Petroleum, Inc. (SHPI) – a community and environmentally friendly oil and gas producer, who also received an award at the event. Acquisition for the project was completed in 2012, and work continues with the project’s unique and extensive dataset.
To date, the Long Beach 3D survey is the only successful, dense urban 3D seismic survey of its kind, spanning two phases for a total of 38-square-miles. NodalSeismic won for its comprehensive solution to deliver high-quality data with the use of advanced cable-free technology, geophysical techniques, environmental stewardship and highly detailed community outreach.
The Long Beach survey was also unique in that it created the most detailed view of earthquake propagation currently in existence in the world. NodalSeismic and SHPI shared the passive earthquake dataset with academic institutions like Caltech, Stanford and UC Berkeley. The system recorded dozens of significant local earthquakes, more than 4,000 micro-earthquakes, and teleseismic events like the 2011 Japan M9.0 earthquake.
“This survey exemplifies NodalSeismic’s ability to solve complex challenges in newer, better ways,” said Dan Hollis, Vice President of Technology and Marketing.” Hollis continued, “This project has also reawakened an approach to seismic that melds oil and gas exploration with earthquake seismology, a practice we aim to lead for the future of the industry.”
“We are honored by this recognition and thankful to our client, Signal Hill Petroleum, for the opportunity and for their incredible teamwork throughout the project,” said Rachel Stocking, Marketing and Business Development Manager. “They allowed our team to pursue new ideas and techniques, without that, the project would not have achieved the level of success that it did.”
